Lincoln Center ‘South Pacific’ broadcast to feature return of Kelli O’Hara -- and maybe a guy from ‘Glee’?

Kelli O’Hara will return for the final performances of Lincoln Center Theater’s Tony-winning revival of ‘South Pacific,’ reprising her role as nurse Nellie Forbush from Aug. 10 until closing night on Aug. 22.

O’Hara and Tony winner Paulo Szot, who plays French planter Emile de Becque, will star in PBS’ ‘Live From Lincoln Center’ broadcast of the production on Aug. 18. (KCET will air the show from 8 to 11 p.m.)

The return of O’Hara makes Culture Monster wonder: Could ‘Glee’ heartthrob Matthew Morrison -- the revival’s original Lt. Joseph Cable--also be heading back to Broadway in time for a TV appearance?

Maybe, a Lincoln Center Theater spokesman says, but it will depend on the actor’s filming schedule.

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s wartime tale of love and heartbreak first opened in New York six decades ago and won nine 1950 Tonys and the Pulitzer Prize.

The Lincoln Center Theater revival, which is directed by Bartlett Sher, opened in April 2008 and won seven Tonys.

For those who can’t wait until the August broadcast, the national touring production of ‘South Pacific’ at the Ahmanson Theatre will run through July 17. Also directed by Sher, it stars Carmen Cusack as Nellie and Rod Gilfry and David Pittsinger sharing the role of Emile.
