The New York theater community tends to be a stay-up-late, get-up-late kind of crowd. But for one day a year they break with habit and rise with the sun -- the morning of the Tony Award nominations.
Culture Monster will provide full coverage of Tuesday’s announcement of the Tony nominations, which will take place at 5:30 a.m. PDT. This season’s Broadway slate features more than 40 eligible productions, including new plays, musicals and revivals.
Among the shows that are expected to score high are the musicals ‘The Book of Mormon,’ ‘Sister Act’ and ‘Catch Me If You Can.’ Plays with high expectations include David Lindsay-Abaire’s ‘Good People,’ Stephen Adly Guirgis’ ’The Mother... With the Hat’ and the British import ‘War Horse.’
The one certainty for this year’s nominations is that there won’t be any nods for ‘Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.’ The troubled musical production has delayed its opening to June 14, which makes it eligible for next year’s awards.
This year’s ceremony will take place June 12 at the Beacon Theatre in New York, and will be broadcast live on CBS, with a delay for the West Coast.
