Broad Stage to host Human Rights Watch benefit

An impressive array of screen and stage stars are set to convene Monday evening at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica in an event to benefit Human Rights Watch. Scheduled participants for the evening of readings include Annette Bening, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Keith David, Minnie Driver, Greg Germann, Taraji P. Henson, Julian Sands and Vincent Kartheiser.
‘Cries From the Heart: Ordinary Heroes’ will take place at 7:30 p.m. The readings will include selections from Donald Margulies’ play ‘Time Stands Still,’ Mark Twain’s ‘The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ and poems by Harold Pinter.
Author Rachel Lloyd will appear to read from her book ‘Girls Like Us,’ about the sexual exploitation of young women. Boris Dittrich, advocacy director of Human Rights Watch’s lesbian-gay division also will appear at the event.
Proceeds from the reading will benefit Human Rights Watch. Tickets are $150 for an orchestra seat and $100 for a balcony seat. The performance is expected to last 90 minutes and will feature music performed by A Fine Frenzy, Mia Doi Todd and Terra Naomi.
