Dodgers split squad defeats Milwaukee, 8-4, in Cactus League game

The Dodgers used a 16-hit attack and solid if not spectacular pitching from starter Clayton Kershaw to beat the Brewers, 8-4, Monday in a split-squad game at Milwaukee’s spring-training field in Phoenix.

Jamey Carroll, who started at second base and later played shortstop, went three for four with a double, and Kershaw singled home a run. Reed Johnson, Matt Kemp and Ronnie Belliard also were among those with RBIs in the game.

Kershaw gave up three runs in the first inning, but two of them were unearned -- third baseman Nick Green threw wildly to second base in a botched double-play attempt -- and Kershaw otherwise blanked the Brewers on two hits in his five innings of work.
