That must have been some week Andre Ethier had on the disabled list.

When the first batch of National League All-Star votes were announced last week, Ethier was nowhere to be found among the starting outfielders.

The tabulation was updated Wednesday, and lo and behold, Ethier (606,514 votes) had slipped into the No.3 spot. He sneaked in ahead of Philadelphia’s Shane Victorino by 40,080 votes, while still trailing the Brewers’ Ryan Braun and the Phillies’ Jayson Werth.

Ethier had been baseball’s best offensive player before going on the DL with a broken pinkie. He was leading the NL hitting, RBI and tied for home runs when he injured the finger.

All of which was seemingly lost on first-round voters, in an embarrassing moment for baseball.

Well, at least the voters are starting to get it right.

The timing, of course, remains odd. Ethier’s voting numbers went up, while his on-the-field numbers remained stagnant.

He was activated Monday. He went 1-for-8 in his first two games back.
