Poland-Ho! for California Climateers

The weather is better in Southern California than in Poland, even if you have a budget crisis on your hands, so one can hardly blame Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for skipping the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Poznan, Poland, this week, despite his recent ‘Global Climate Summit’ in Beverly Hills. Instead, the governor sent a pre-taped video message to the 10,000 United Nations delegates attending the conference.

‘We have no intention of backing away from our historic commitment to the fight against global warming because the economy has slowed down,’ Schwarzenegger said in the message, noting that this week California is to pass its own final plan for slashing the state’s greenhouse emissions.

‘The green rules and regulations that will help save our planet will also revive our economies,’ he added, promising that he would attend ‘in person’ next December’s meeting in Copenhagen, where a final treaty is expected to be signed. ‘Keep on pumping up the economy and keep on pumping up the environment,’ he concluded.

Schwarzenegger did send his own delegation to Poznan: California Environmental Protection Agency Secretary Linda Adams, Resources Secretary Mike Chrisman, and climate specialists Anthony Brunello and Anthony Eggert. They’ve been attending panels such as ‘The U.S. Carbon World in 2013,’ ‘Interaction Between Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading Schemes’ and ‘The Role of Forestry in Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation.’
