With the tie clock, lunch is at half past paisley

Why buy Dad a tie for Father’s Day when you can buy him 12? The whimsical home accents at the recently opened EdenLA include the quirky Tie clock, a one-of-a-kind update on the Father’s Day standard. With a dozen patterned ties radiating from the center, the clock ($316) looks like George Nelson took a trip to the men’s department at Nordie’s.

And for Mom? How about a glass of chilled Chardonnay while she’s shopping at the Brentwood interiors store? One of the first things EdenLA customers will see is a buffet table laid out with complimentary drinks: chilled white wine, beer (Heineken when I stopped in) and bottled water, as well as espresso. It’s a luxurious touch that fits the shop’s setting near high-end clothing stores and restaurants such as Tavern. It’s also well suited to the store’s casually elegant contents.

The 5,300-square-foot space is full of contemporary, clean-lined furniture of the mid-to-high price range. Sofas start at $997 and can reach almost $5,000; dining tables range from $600 to $3,400; and media consoles go for $1,250 to $3,250. Glass, dark woods and fabrics, and shiny chrome and silver finishes seem to dominate and make the store a good find for an upscale bachelor looking to trick out a new house or for a contemporary-leaning couple hunting for furniture that doesn’t come from a big chain.
