Man who was dancing in the street carjacks motorist, police say

A 19-year-old Arcadia man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly carjacked a La Crescenta motorist and crashed the Fiat into a light pole.

Trevon Lofton was dancing in the intersection of Montrose and La Crescenta avenues at about 10:30 p.m. when he approached the Fiat and began yelling profanities and challenging the 42-year-old motorist to a fight, according to Glendale police reports.

Lofton slammed his hands on the Fiat, opened the driver’s door and started punching the driver, police said. The motorist tried to protect himself and began hitting Lofton with his fists and legs.

Lofton pulled the motorist from the Fiat, threw him on the ground and drove away with the car, police said.

Lofton, who was wearing large headphones during the incident, drove the Fiat with the driver’s door open but crashed into a light pole after traveling about 30 feet, police said.

After seeing Lofton crash, the motorist tried to pull him from the Fiat, police said, but the men fighting again.

During the fight, the motorist called police using his Bluetooth earpiece and was able to remove Lofton from the car. Lofton then walked toward a 7-Eleven parking lot, where he tried to fight another man, police said.

That’s when police found Lofton and arrested him on suspicion of carjacking.
