Residents of tiny Notasulga, Ala., (population 916, according to Wikipedia) were furious when postal workers evicted a cat named Sammy who’d made the local post office his home.

When one Notasulga resident complained about Sammy’s presence -- saying that since he wasn’t a taxpayer, he didn’t belong in a federal building -- Sammy found himself out on his ear.

But Sammy’s many friends in Notasulga didn’t take his eviction lying down. Instead, they rented him a P.O. box so he’d have a legitimate (cough) reason to enter the building. A local NBC affiliate reports that this course of action seems to have done the trick; Sammy will be allowed back into the post office (but he’ll have to stay out of customers’ way).
