It’s not so much that acting has quit Taylor Momsen -- rather, Taylor Momsen has quit acting, the 18-year-old made clear in a recent backstage interview in Tokyo.

Momsen’s relationship with ‘Gossip Girl’ ended in May, when she and Jessica Szhor were not renewed as series regulars. At that point, Momsen had already made it clear that her band, the Pretty Reckless, was taking center stage in her life.

‘I quit acting, actually,’ the not-an-actress told Elle magazine on Saturday in Japan, in case anyone had forgotten. ‘I quit ‘Gossip Girl’ and now tour and am in a band and that’s pretty much all I want to do.

‘Hopefully I’ll be able to only do that for the rest of my life.’

Convenient, then, that Momsen also was replaced by Kelly Osbourne in January as the face of the Material Girl clothing line by Lourdes Ciccone and birthday girl Madonna.

The music-is-my-life thing is consistent with what Momsen was saying in April on the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards red carpet, before the whole ‘Gossip Girl’ thing ended. ‘I’ve been writing songs since I was 5 years old,’ she told the Ministry, ‘so that’s what I want to do with my life is make records and tour until I’m dead.’

Momsen, whose acting credits include ‘Gossip Girl’ and playing Cindy Lou Who in the 2000 Jim Carrey version of ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas,’ was nominated for a breakout female star Teen Choice Award in 2008.

The award went to Blake Lively, also of ‘Gossip Girl,’ whose acting resume includes roles in ‘The Town,’ ‘Green Lantern’ and ‘The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.’
