Oh say can you see?

BEIJING -- Okay, now let’s see. . .if we can.
It rained, and hard, most of Sunday afternoon and evening.
Beijing Olympic organizers have said that rain was needed to clear the air of the gray glop that has covered the city for nearly a week.
(They also swear the stuff is coming from haze, not pollution, and the Beijing environmental agency’s statistics have conveniently been just under the level considered dangerous for sensitive people, such as, perhaps, athletes with asthma. They count those readings as ``blue sky days,’’ which would be laughable if it weren’t so sad.)
The forecast calls for more rain Monday, overcast Tuesday, sun Wednesday.
Maybe the sky actually will be blue by then.
