Opinion: Take THAT, Massachusetts

With the feds unwilling or unable to do much to make healthcare more affordable for the average American, the job is falling this year to the states. Massachusetts has been leading the way with its new plan to require its residents to have health insurance. But a couple members of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s healthcare taskforce said the California plan, unveiled from a remote location by the healthinator, is the new standard.

‘This plan one-ups Massachusetts,’ said Peter Harbage, senior associate at the New America Foundation.

Health Net, Inc. President and CEO Jay M. Gellert went a step further.

‘It makes Massachusetts look like the small state that it truly is,’ Gellert said.
