TCA: Tommy Lee and Ludacris go green in ‘Battleground Earth’

Tommy Lee and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges shovel manure, go door-to-door installing eco-friendly showers and conserve water by taking group showers -- not with each other -- as part of the 10-part Planet Green series “Battleground Earth.”

The show follows the pair as they separately tour the country -- in a biodiesel bus, no less -- as part of a competition to go green. The winner will headline a concert at the Greek Theater, while the loser gets slotted as the opening act.

“The show is supposed to be informative, but we make it entertaining at the same time, so we’re just not preaching all the time,” Bridges said. Since the series wrapped, he said he’s kept up his efforts, recycling, driving a Tahoe Hybrid and putting up solar panels in his Georgia home

“I’m trying to get off the grid myself,” Lee said via satellite from Canada. He added that he’s also recycling with his kids.

Among the celebrity guests who pop up to host challenges are Jane Fonda, Meatloaf, Magic Johnson and Gene Simmons -- he introduces a challenge called Green Death.

The two admitted the competition got heated along the way but said that friendship was the byproduct. “He’s a sweetheart,” Lee said of Bridges. He replied, “Don’t print that.”

“Battleground Earth” premieres Aug. 3 on Planet Green.
