In celebration of its 10th anniversary, ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ is returning to prime time.
ABC will mount a special two-week event bringing back the hit game show, hosted by Regis Philbin, for the summertime. New episodes will air Sunday through Thursdays starting Aug. 9 at 8 p.m.
TV Week reports that ABC had been considering reviving the format for some time but hadn’t been able to lock a deal with Philbin until now. The success of the Oscar-winning film ‘Slumdog Millionaire,’ about a young contestant on the Indian version of the show, also expedited things.
Fans of the series, however, shouldn’t get too attached. The magazine also reports that there are no plans to give the show a more permanent prime-time presence.
