‘The Great Food Truck Race’ is back for Season 2 -- and once again Southern California food trucks dominate the roster. But this time around the prize is twice as nice.
The Food Network competition-on-wheels pits food truck against food truck on a nationwide race for $100,000, double the booty on the line in Season 1. Tyler Florence -- or TyFlo, as I like to call him -- also returns.
This season’s So Cal competitors include Sky’s Gourmet Tacos and Café Con Leche out of Los Angeles, Devilicious out of San Diego, The Lime Truck out of Irvine and Seabirds out of Costa Mesa. Other competitors include the Hodge Podge truck from Cleveland, Korilla BBQ out of New York and Roxy’s Grilled Cheese from Boston.
The competition kicks off Aug. 14 after the finale of ‘Food Network Star,’ with TyFlo manning a starting point that will be both familiar and picturesque: Malibu Pier.
The guest star will also be familar:
L.A. celebrity chef Susan Feniger will decide the winner of the first challenge, which involves creating an inventive lobster dish. From there, competitors head to Vegas, where they will encounter their first -- get this -- speed bump. TyFlo spins a large wheel containing numerous food truck problems and lands on ‘out of propane,’ so the teams must proceed without use of this necessary fuel. There will also be pit stops in Salt Lake City; Denver; Manhattan, Kan.; Memphis, Tenn.; and Atlanta. The final battle will play out in Miami. Are you planning on tuning in for Season 2? Have you eaten at any of these food trucks? Care to wager who might -- heh, heh -- roll away with Season 2 honors?
And perhaps the most important question of all: Will TyFlo continue to be the only human who can rock the new wave ‘80s-meets-lumberjack look?
