Red Sox Nation responds: Part 3

Here is Part 3 of comments (Part 1 and Part 2) from Red Sox Nation that were sparked by John Lackey and Torii Hunter making their case that the Angels remain the better team despite Boston’s 3-2 victory on Monday.
‘I don’t know what the feeling is out there, but I know what this series should have shown everyone who was watching. It pointed out how easy it is to get 100 wins by beating dogs like Seattle, Oakland and Texas in July as opposed to winning 95 games against the Yankees, Blue Jays (and this year) Tampa Bay.
‘With the exception of some fine pitching, the Angels stunk throughout this series. They stunk defensively and they couldn’t get hits when they needed them. Lackey turns out to be yet another bitter also-ran whining about how he deserved to win even though he didn’t get the job done when he needed to.’
Don DeCristofaro, Pembroke, Mass.
‘No, they did NOT deserve to win this series. Way too many plays not befitting a playoff team. Way too many runners left on base by guys who make WAY too much money to not hit.’
Edward Lee Lamoureux, Peoria, Ill.
‘Can someone please explain to Lackey that the supposed ‘best team’ in baseball got at least 10 or 15 of their 100 wins playing in arguably one of the worst divisions in baseball, that the ‘best team’ should play better defense and try to USE that left field wall that yes, is found nowhere else in America, to their benefit. Great pitcher. Sore loser. Kind of sad in a way.’
C. Johnson, Concord, N.H.
‘As a life-long Red Sox fan, I felt the need to respond to Mr. Lackey’s and Mr. Hunter’s comments about the Angels being a better team than the Sox. They both played great in the series, but they need to look at their own teammates who played miserably in the field, failed consistently in the clutch and did not play as a team well enough to defeat the defending world champs. Hey, I’ve got an idea, why don’t
they call the Cubs, the ‘other best team in baseball’ to play in the ‘Better Team...But Losers World Series.’’
Steve Simon, Hamden, Conn.
‘Maybe if Lackey stopped pointing fingers and making excuses, he could actually elevate those around him. How on earth can he call his team the better team when they were absolute butchers on defense?!? Or did he forget that he was staring half his teammates down all night? He threw the offense under the bus after Game 1, the defense under the bus throughout Game 4, got outpitched twice by Lester, and now suddenly he’s on the better team? Lackey should grow up and learn something about sportsmanship before running his mouth off. Or he could keep this act up, keeping glaring at his fielders, and see how that works out for him for the rest of his career.’’
