LAS VEGAS -– Set to depart the winter meetings without an offer extended to Manny Ramirez, Dodgers General Manager Ned Colletti said this morning that re-signing negotiations with the free-agent outfielder remain deadlocked.
“This is like watching the San Andreas Fault,” Colletti said. “Some days you can see it move, probably, and other days it’s going to sit there, and in a week or two, it may move a lot.”
Ramirez’s agent, Scott Boras, told Colletti on Monday that the Dodgers should look at signing his client to the same deal that the San Francisco Giants gave to Barry Bonds. Colletti was the Giants’ assistant general manager when they signed Bonds to a five-year deal that included a club option to void the final year of the contract if Bonds failed to meet certain standards over the first four.
But Colletti made it clear that the Dodgers aren’t interested.
“The other day, Scott outlined what they will need,” he said. “We’re not interested. We’re not interested in doing five years, four years, long-term deal. We want the player back. We’re willing to pay a high salary to bring him back.”
