The San Jose-based mixed martial arts organization Strikeforce has purchased the contracts of more than 40 former Pro Elite fighters, including those of stars Kimbo Slice and Gina Carano, Strikeforce co-founder and Chief Executive Scott Coker just reported to The Times.
Jake Shields, a 170-pound fighter, and middleweight Robbie Lawler are also part of the deal, Coker said.
Several of the fighters, including Carano, will be invited to fight at Strikeforce’s April 11 card at the HP Pavilion in San Jose. Slice will likely resume fighting soon after, Coker said.
‘We’re getting a good response,’ Coker said. ‘These people want to fight.’
We’ll have more details on this deal later today on the Fabulous Forum.
