Baseball’s final remaining arbitration case was settled without a hearing when third baseman Ryan Zimmerman (pictured at left) and the Washington Nationals settled on a one-year, $3.325-million contract on Thursday night.
Zimmerman, who hit .283 with 14 home runs and 51 RBIs in 106 games last season, can earn an additional $175,000 in incentives based on plate appearances. He will be paid $75,000 for making his 500th plate appearance and $50,000 for both his 550th and 600th.
Zimmerman’s base salary matches the midpoint of the figures he and the Nationals exchanged last month.
Zimmerman asked for $3.9 million and the Nationals offered him $2.75 million.
