Over near the steps of the Museum of Natural History in South Los Angeles, evolution was in progress. The natural order of selection left Aaron Corp on top as USC’s No. 1 quarterback. A decisive move by Pete Carroll.
Meanwhile, out in Westwood, things are still in committee regarding the UCLA job. The final destination seems obvious to anyone who has seen a practice, as Kevin Prince seems head and shoulders above others, but Coach Rick Neuheisel said he is going to hold off on anointing the winner.
‘I am not ready to make that decision,’ Neuheisel said after practice Tuesday. ‘I’m going to talk more about it with [offensive coordinator] Norm Chow. I don’t think it will happen any time this week.’
As for Prince, who has performed better than freshman Richard Brehaut and last season’s starter, Kevin Craft, Neuheisel was complimentary to a point.
‘He has shown signs that he has the stuff to be the guy,’ Neuheisel said. ‘The harder we make it, the more we’ll find out what kind of mettle he has.’
Translation: The carrot-and-stick plan is likely to carry beyond spring practice.
