Gaborik signs with New York Rangers

Marian Gaborik, who had been on the Kings’ radar but only for a short-term deal, agreed to a five-year, $28.75-million contract with the New York Rangers. That’s short if you compare it to Marian Hossa’s 12-year deal with Chicago, but still lengthy for a player with a history of injuries.

After Ottawa re-signed Chris Neil, 26 of the NHL’s 30 teams had made a move in the free-agent market since it began at 9 a.m. Pacific Time. The exceptions? Detroit, Dallas, Atlanta (which made a trade but no free-agent signing) and--ta da!--the Kings.
