UCLA just ran out of time.
The Bruins’ offense, missing in action for most of this month, came alive in the fourth quarter against Oregon State in Corvallis today, but came up 15 yards short in a 26-19 loss to the Beavers.
UCLA, which trailed, 16-3, after three quarters, scored as many touchdowns on offense in the game’s final 15 minutes as it had in its previous three games and three quarters.
The Bruins’ last-ditch effort to tie ended at the Oregon State 15 yard-line when time expired.
UCLA started its final drive at its own 24 with 44 seconds left. Quarterback Kevin Prince completed four of six passes, the last a 12-yard gain to Taylor Embree.
Prince completed 22 of 34 passes for 323 yards and two touchdowns. He was nine of 13 for 198 yards in the fourth quarter.
Nelson Rosario had six catches for 152 yards and a touchdown for the Bruins, and Embree had five catches for 88 yards and a touchdown.
Oregon State’s Sean Canfield completed 25 of 34 passes for 305 yards -- with 17 of the completions and 198 of those yards accounted for by the Rodgers brothers, Jacquizz and James.
Jacquizz Rodgers also rushed for 112 yards in 24 carries and threw a touchdown pass. James Rodgers carried five times for 28 yards, including a 17-yard run for the game-winning touchdown in the final minute.
UCLA fell to 3-5 overall after its fifth consecutive loss -- all in Pacific 10 Conference play and in October.
Oregon State is 5-3 overall, 3-2 in the Pac-10.
Oregon State 26, UCLA 19
If you’re a UCLA fan, that was fun... for a couple of minutes.
Oregon State just scored on a 17-yard run by James Rodgers with 44 seconds left in the game to retake the lead.
It took the Beavers just seven plays to drive 70 yards, with quarterback Sean Canfield completing four of five passes for 55 yards on the march.
UCLA 19, Oregon State 19
UCLA came into this game with its offense having scored two touchdowns in three games.
Well, the Bruins just tied the score with their second touchdown in a span of seven minutes of the fourth quarter. And UCLA has converted on two-point pass plays after each touchdown.
Kevin Prince could be the crown Prince of Westwood if he pulls this one out.
His latest touchdown pass, covering seven yards, went to Taylor Embree. Then he connected with Johnathan Franklin for the two-point conversion.
The scoring drive covered 94 yards and the Bruins did it in 10 plays. Prince completed four of seven passes on the march, for 79 yards.
Oregon State 19, UCLA 11
One quick scoring drive and suddenly UCLA has made a game of it.
Kevin Prince and Nelson Rosario hooked up on a 58-yard touchdown pass -- and then connected again on a two-point conversation pass to pull the Bruins within striking range midway through the fourth quarter.
UCLA now has the ball back, too, around midfield.

Oregon State 19, UCLA 3 (fourth quarter)
Oregon State methodically went down the field, getting to the UCLA 14-yard line.
A 31-yard field goal by Justin Kahut puts the Bruins down by three scores, as the Beavers lead, 19-3, with 10:10 left in game.
Oregon State 16, UCLA 3 (fourth quarter)
The third quarter just ended, and thus far there seems little need for Bruins fans to tune into the tape-delayed television broadcast at 3:30 p.m.
To sum up: Oregon State running back Jacquizz Rodgers has 163 yards in total offense. UCLA’s entire team has 164.
Oregon State 16, UCLA 3 (third quarter)
UCLA’s offense put points on the board … well a field goal … after wasting a time out … and after running three consecutive times after getting a first down on the Oregon State 15-yard line.
The Bruins’ drive, which ended with a 24-yard field goal by Kai Forbath, was aided considerably by a pass interference call on Dwight Roberson and a personal foul call on Brennan Olander.
After getting to the 15, three Johnathan Franklin runs left the Bruins a yard-and-a-half short of a first down. Coach Rick Neuheisel decided to go for the first down, but the Bruins were late out of the huddle and had to call a timeout. After mulling over the situation, Neuheisel decided to take the field goal.
Oregon State 16, UCLA 0 (halftime)
There was nothing from UCLA to suggest the Bruins were anything but a Pacific 10 Conference bottom feeder through the first half Saturday against Oregon State.
The Beavers took their time getting loose. But when Justin Kahut chipped in a 27-yard field goal as time ran out in the second quarter, Oregon State had a 16-0 lead that appears insurmountable.
The Bruins’ offense was sluggish, at best, no matter who was at quarterback. Kevin Prince played most of the half, with Richard Brehaut getting in for one series, but the Bruins managed only 86 total yards.
Oregon State, meanwhile, rolled up 248 yards. Running back Jacquizz Rodgers had 75 yards rushing, and also threw a 14-yard touchdown pass out of the Wildcat formation. Quarterback Sean Canfield threw for 148 yards.
The Bruins’ defense did hold on occasion, forcing the Beavers to settle for three field goals from Kahut.
Oregon State 6, UCLA 0 (second quarter)
On reserve quarterback Richard Brehaut’s first pass attempt -- on a third-and-three play -- he is sacked and has the ball knocked from his hands. The Bruins Ryan Taylor was also called for holding on the play. The only positive moment in the play is when the Bruins recovered the fumble.
Starter Kevin Prince handed the headset to Brehaut on the sidelines and is preparing to go back in.
Oregon State 6, UCLA 0 (second quarter)
Oregon State strung together three first downs to get into UCLA territory. But on third and five, wide receiver Damola Adeniji dropped a pass and the Beavers settled for a 42-yard field goal by Justin Kahut for a 6-0 lead.
UCLA will go with Richard Brehaut at quarterback, as he is warmed up and getting instructions from Coach Rick Neuheisel.
Oregon State 3, UCLA 0 (second quarter)
Los Angeles Times computers have not crashed, and the Bruins beat writer is alive and well.
But UCLA and Oregon State just meander up and down the field, accomplishing nothing beyond a handful of first downs. The Beavers still lead, 3-0, with 9:42 left in the half.

Oregon State 3, UCLA 0 (first quarter)
Oregon State, in ho-hum fashion, carved up UCLA’s defense through the first five plays, none of which was less than a six-yard gain. Running back Jacquizz Rodgers and his brother, wide receiver James Rodgers, took turns running past Bruins defenders. But the drive petered out and Oregon State settled for a 48-yard field goal from Justin Kahut.
On UCLA’s first series. tailback Johnathan Franklin appeared to re-injure his ankle, as he limped off the field.

Stanley Hasiak, UCLA’s freshman guard, did not make the trip for “personal health reasons,” a UCLA official said. The trip south to Corvallis seemed like a trip back to 1968. A waitress in tie-dye, wearing peace symbol earrings, served coffee. A block away, a sign in a yard read, “Get U.S. Out Of The U.N.”
