Ducks-Lightning: Ducks lead 2-0 after first period

The Ducks have a seven-game homestand during which they can try to turn their 6-10-3 season around.

At least this is a start. The Ducks have a 2-0 lead after the first period over Tampa Bay on plays that appeared identical.

The Ducks took the 1-0 lead at 6:25 when Teemu Selanne slapped the puck past Lightning goaltender Mike Smith. After Ryan Getzlaf found Corey Perry by the goal line, Perry connected with Selanne by the right side of the net. Perry’s assist continued his point streak to 13 games, which is the NHL’s longest this season.

Getzlaf then converted on a power-play goal at 18:12 that was also on the right side of the goal. After Tampa Bay defenseman Lukas Krajicek was penalized for interference at 18:01, Getzlaf won the faceoff to give the Ducks control. The puck went back to the blue line and eventually went to Perry along the boards. He then passed to Selanne by the goal line and he soon connected with Getzlaf for the 2-0 lead.
