Riverside heavyweight contender Cris Arreola is in the final stages of negotiations to return to the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario on April 24 against former world cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek, Arreola’s promoter told The Times on Tuesday.
Arreola (28-1, 25 KOs) lost a heavyweight title shot in September against Vitali Klitschko, but he rebounded with a fourth-round TKO of Brian Minto in December.
The 33-year-old Adamek (40-1, 27 KOs) formerly owned world light-heavyweight and cruiserweight belts. His only loss is to unbeaten Chad Dawson. Adamek moved to heavyweight late last year and has beaten veteran Andrew Golota and then Jason Estrada on Feb. 6.
Arreola, 28, first fought at the Ontario arena in November 2008, scoring a TKO victory over Travis Walker in an entertaining bout that lasted just three rounds.
Dan Goossen, Arreola’s promoter, said he plans to formally announce the bout Friday.
