The U.S. Tennis Assn. has 10 cities, including Pacific Palisades and San Diego, that have bid to host the 2010 Federation Cup finals between the U.S. and Italy Nov. 6 and 7. Riviera Tennis Club would be the site in Pacific Palisades and San Diego would host the event at the city’s Sports Arena.
Others that have made bids include Fort Worth, Texas; Jacksonville, Fla.; Portland, Ore.; Cleveland; the island of Hawaii; St. Louis; Surprise, Ariz., and Dallas.
The final will be a rematch of the 2009 championship which Italy won in Reggio Calabria last November. Melanie Oudin has been the anchor for this year’s team, although Serena and Venus Williams had considered making themselves available for the semifinals against Russia last spring in Birmingham, Ala.
The site will be announced the week of June 14.
