Jets suspend Sal Alosi for ordering players to form human wall on sideline

Sal Alosi has been suspended indefinitely by the New York Jets for ordering five inactive players to form a human wall along the sideline for a punt return during Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.
The strength and conditioning coach had already been suspended for the rest of the season for sticking out his knee and tripping Miami player Nolan Carroll during the punt return. Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum said Wednesday that Alosi initially was not forthcoming with the information that he had ordered the players to stand that way.
“As we continued our investigation, we discovered some new information,” Tannenbaum said in a conference call from the NFL owners meetings in Dallas, “and the players at the Miami game were instructed by Sal to stand where they were to force the gunner in the game to run around them.”
On the game film of the play, Tannenbaum said, “It looked to me like it was unusual for them to be standing that way.”
He said the NFL supports the Jets’ decision and is looking into the incident.
“Once we get all the information, we’ll make a final determination,” Tannenbaum said. “But, based on this information, Sal’s been suspended indefinitely.”
The other players involved have also been interviewed by the Jets, but Tannenbaum said no action will be taken against them.
“This is just about Sal,” Tannenbaum said.
