Michael Vick’s former dogfighting compound could be turned into rehab center for dogs

Michael Vick seems to have cleaned up his image after serving a 19-month sentence for running a dogfighting ring. Now an animal-rights group wants to do the same for Vick’s former dogfighting compound.

Dogs Deserve Better of Tipton, Penn., is trying to raise money to purchase the 4,600-square-foot house in Virginia’s Surry County that served as headquarters for Bad Newz Kennels and turn it into a rehabilitation center for chained and penned dogs.

The organization says it has until March 20 to raise nearly $600,000 to buy the house, which would be used for offices, and ultimately needs $3 million to purchase the site, install fencing and build a facility for the dogs.

In his second season back in the NFL, Vick flourished as Philadelphia’s starting quarterback, leading the Eagles to the NFC East title and finishing second in voting for the league’s MVP.
