It was like a replay of the teams’ first meeting set on fast forward.
UCLA jumped out to a big early lead over Oregon State on Saturday afternoon at Pauley Pavilion, only to watch the Beavers rally furiously and pull within 29-24 at halftime.
The Bruins had a 24-6 lead and were holding Oregon State to only 11.1% shooting with fewer than eight minutes to play in the half following a 16-0 UCLA run.
But the Bruins started getting sloppy and the Beavers closed the half with an 18-5 push, aided in part by a flurry of UCLA turnovers. The Bruins had 14 turnovers for the half.
Junior guard Malcolm Lee had nine points and sophomore forward Tyler Honeycutt six for UCLA, which shot 47.6% to Oregon State’s 27.8%. Sophomore forward Brendan Lane, who missed the Bruins’ 64-54 victory over Oregon on Thursday while attending his grandmother’s funeral, had four points and four rebounds.
Forward Devon Collier led the Beavers with seven points.
