Tim Wallach, Terry Francona among seven selected to National College Baseball Hall of Fame

Dodgers coach Tim Wallach and Boston Red Sox Manager Terry Francona head a seven-man class selected Monday to the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.

Wallach led Cal State Fullerton to the 1979 College World Series championship, as a first baseman. He was honored as that year’s winner of the Golden Spikes Award, the college baseball equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.

Francona, an outfielder, led Arizona to the 1980 College World Series championship. He won the 1980 Golden Spikes Award.

Joining Wallach and Francona in this year’s class: Southern University catcher Danny Goodwin -- the only player to be selected twice with the first overall pick in the baseball draft -- Duke shortstop Dick Groat, Arizona State outfielder Oddibe McDowell, Clemson coach Bill Wilhelm and Grambling coach Ralph Waldo Emerson Jones.
