Broncos versus Patriots is much more than Tim Tebow vs. Tom Brady.
Now, the mayors of Denver and Boston have gotten into the act, and they’re sniping back and forth about one of those traditional friendly wagers over sporting events. Denver plays at New England on Saturday in an NFL divisional playoff game.
According to the Denver Post, Denver Mayor Michael Hancock suggested the losing city pay up in beer.
Boston Mayor Tom Menino responded by slamming Colorado’s beer culture, telling the Boston Globe: ‘We have the best.... Colorado Rocky beer? Uck.’
Hancock fired back: ‘First of all, we are the microbrew capital of the nation. Some of the best beer in the world is brewed here in Colorado. The moment Sam Adams sells more beer than Coors, then he can come talk to me. Otherwise, he needs to stay in Boston and not talk about our beer.’
The two settled on this: Should the Patriots lose, Menino would buy Hancock a lobster dinner and clothe the city’s Paul Revere statue in a Tebow jersey. Should the Broncos lose, Hancock would buy Menino a steak dinner and wear a Patriots jersey to a public event.
