Consumer Electronics Show: Gorilla Glass strengthens mobile device screens

Many of our favorite mobile devices have big, beautiful glass screens that are prone to crack, scratch, shatter and break. Corning demonstrated its high-strength Gorilla Glass at the Consumer Electronics Show -- a product it hopes will make screens more resilient.

Chemically hardened and manufactured in sheets as thin as .5 millimeters, the company claims the product outperforms Soda Lime glass in damage resistance and retained strength and allows for the use of thinner cover glasses. But why stop with smart phones and tablets? Corning says there are many other uses for Gorilla Glass, everything from big-screen LCD TVs with seamless glass fronts to car windshields to architectural applications.
