Google’s Gmail gets a redesign

Gmail has a new look, new themes and a few new features that should make the online email client easier to use.
Among the new features is dynamic window resizing, which enables Gmail to adjust itself anytime a Web browser window is made larger or smaller -- make the browser window bigger and the columns and rows in Gmail grow to make use of the extra space. This helps in eliminating the need to scroll left or right to see the entire text of an email.
Google has also added a button that adjusts the density of Gmail’s layout. With a click, the space between text and links can grow or shrink to fit one of three options which Google calls ‘comfortable,’ ‘cozy’ or ‘compact.’
Another handy addition is that of profile pictures in emails, which adds a photo next to the name of the person sending an email. Search is improved as well, to include to, from, subject and now ‘has the words’ and ‘doesn’t have.’
From a style standpoint, Gmail’s new look falls in line with the design of Google’s newer products such as the Google+ social network as well as Google.com itself. Google redesigned its Google Reader RSS feed service this week as well, using a similar design style and integrating the product into Google+.
