Maurice Hill, 41, a black man, was shot multiple times at 6424 S. Vermont Ave. and died at 12:11 a.m. Thursday, April 19. He was gunned down in front of a liquor store in LAPD’s 77th Street Division at about 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, April 18. Hill was transported to a hospital, but failed to respond. Investigators seek information about two suspects who drove alongside him in a dark colored vehicle. Call (213) 485-1385.
At the scene, friends of the victim stood mourning on Thursday. They described Hill-- ‘Mo,’ as they called him--as short in stature, hearty, and ‘a good guy.’ He had lived in the area all his life, and his parents and a sibling lived nearby. He had a teenage daughter and younger son, they said. ‘Hey now!’ he’d say. ‘Pull your shoes up!’ He drank beer in the grassy median in the middle of Vermont, under a tree. He called it his ‘park.’ Said a friend: ‘If they had known who he was, they wouldn’t have shot him.’
