Opinion: Even Alec Baldwin (!) liked Sarah Palin on ‘Saturday Night Live’

Well, not politically, of course.

Alec Baldwin is one of Hollywood’s more outspoken liberals. He once promised to leave the country if George W. Bush was elected president. Baldwin, like many politicians on certain policies, was for leaving the country before he was against leaving the country.

Anyway, Baldwin was in the better of the two sketches involving Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on ‘Saturday Night Live’ last weekend (See videos of both by clicking the Read more line below; make your own judgment and let us know in the Comments section).

Baldwin wrote a short piece about the experience on Huffington Post today.

The actor defended SNL against some people who apparently suggested the first female Republican nominee for vice president should never have been given such a national forum. After all the publicity surrounding Palin’s surprise pick and Tina Fey’s rendition of her, Baldwin asks: ‘What reality are you in?’

He noted that the long-running program, which had its best ratings in 14 years with Palin (and Baldwin), is, after all, a comedy show, not ‘Meet the Press.’

Then the actor added:

‘When you come on a show like that, you are prepared in advance to get worked over. Palin knew that. Palin came on to be a good sport. And she was. She was polite, gracious. (More so than some of the famous actors who come through there, believe me.)’

No, really, that’s a direct quote from here.

In the skit, Baldwin is seemingly confused, thinking the woman standing next to him is Fey when it’s really Palin. Informed of her real identity, he stands back and says she’s ‘way hotter’ in person.

Palin remarks that Stephen has always been her favorite Baldwin brother, and they walk off together for a studio tour.
