Opinion: Shoe flies don’t bother Bush; footwear as political statement

Unless you’re an Iraqi or a Secret Service agent, the Egyptian ‘journalist’s’ tossing of two shoes at President George W. Bush in Iraq on Sunday (To view the actual shoe-toss video, click the ‘Read more’ line below) is rather humorous.
(Not as hilarious as some nationalities find this Santa Claus-down-the-chimney business or the giant rabbit who hides colored chicken eggs all over American houses each spring. But still kinda comical.)
However, since we’re neither Arabic nor armed, we wanted to share a clever little photo collection of shoes that our LATimes.com colleagues have assembled, showing samples of footwear in political history from Imelda Marcos, who had plenty to throw, to Richard Reid.
Remember Reid? He’s the terrorist and would-be bomb igniter whose undetonated boot bomb is why we all get to remove our own shoes each time we go to fly somewhere, holidays or not.
We’ve added a couple mystery feet photos of our own here. (Answers down below).
