Now that’s more like it

I think everybody was a little surprised by Darrell Scott’s mere mortal performance in St. Bonaventure’s season opener against Santa Margarita, but, as expected, he reverted back to his old self Friday. The running back everybody in D1 wishes they could have rushed for 203 yards and caught three passes for 69 yards in the Seraphs’ 34-14 victory over Pac-7 League power Atascadero.
I know Scott and St. Bonny have taken a whole lot of flak since their near-miss against Santa Margarita, but the fact remains that the Seraphs are the best team in the Northern Division. Go ahead, try to convince me otherwise, but I really believe Scott & Co. are going to take the Northern Division title. Sure, Hart’s really good and Canyon isn’t just going to roll over, but I just can’t fathom either of these teams challenging for the title. That’s my dangerous, early-September-it’s-still-90-degrees-outside-prediction and I’m stickin’ to it.
Still, as good as the Seraphs are, they might need a few more knocks on the head before it sinks in how much talent they have. And I’m sure Canyon and Oaks Christian will be happy to oblige over the next two weeks. Back-to-back games against two of the best teams in Southern California will uncover how much work St. Bonny needs before it grabs its seventh divisional title in nine years.
