I understand it’s just a short drive down Interstate 5, but I was really surprised to see so many Saugus fans at tonight’s game. They nearly filled up the entire visitors’ grandstands and were cheering a little louder than their Alemany rivals on the other side of the field.

Still, I guess they had a little more to cheer about., especially after the Centurions put together a huge, time-killing drive in the second quarter, capped off by a one-yard TD run by Ryan Zirbel to take a 14-0 halftime lead.

I’ve been somewhat impressed by both teams’ defenses, but it seems Saugus has had the edge ever since Mario Wright’s first-quarter interception. But there’s still plenty of time for the Warriors to get back into this one.

Well, I’m off to Birmingham to check out the second-half action over there. Hopefully my trek across the Valley down Balboa will go smoothly.
