Girls’ golf: Crosby’s milestone is something to roar about

Congratulations are in order for Rosary Coach Don Crosby, who won the 200th match of his career with his team’s victory over Orange Lutheran at El Prado Golf Course in Chino. This year’s squad is led by senior Brittany Bogart, sophomore Ashley Chin and freshman Lloyd Hoehly.

Crosby has been at Rosary the last five seasons, and was at Western for 18 before that. While at Western, he coached a young man who became a professional race car driver and his teammate who didn’t do too badly, either.

The Register talked to Crosby about his past, and Rosary’s present. One interesting thing was that he was denied his 200th victory on three consecutive days, when the Royals were beaten in succession by Mater Dei, Cypress and Santa Margarita, the Nos. 3, 1 and 2 teams, respectively, in Orange County.

Those three schools will venture to the University tournament on Thursday at Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course in Irvine, where some of the top teams are gathered. The tournament will serve as a tuneup for the Southern Team Divisionals, which are scheduled for Oct. 29 at El Prado.

Speaking of milestones, this is my 200th blog of the season, though no telling what my winning percentage is. Unlike Crosby, no one will call me to offer congratulations, though Editor Bob might ring to hassle me about my grammar, something about ‘its vs. their.’ Really, I’d rather be on the golf course.
