Beyond the pageantry surrounding the 73rd meeting between Garfield and Roosevelt at East Los Angeles College on Friday, there is one inescapable fact: Both are fighting for playoff spots in the Eastern League, which hasn’t always been the case in recent years.
Garfield (6-2,3-1) has a chance to tie for the league title if Jordan stumbles.
Roosevelt (4-4,1-3), which has lost three of its last four, must beat Garfield and South Gate to have a shot at a postseason berth.
Add that to the pressure of playing in a game that dates back to 1925.
