Poly’s brilliant kicking game

You don’t see that very often. Jordan Heinze lined up for a field goal that was two zip codes beyond his range, apparently. He kicks the ball and it comes to rest on the one-yard line. The ball is whistled dead. And that’s where Crespi begins its drive, from the one.

Maybe Poly’s special teams coach called for Heinze to kick it like that. If he did, he’s brilliant. Or Heinze is brilliant. One or the other, I’m sure.

I don’t know why officials whistled the ball dead, though. Poly could have downed it, which is what was going to happen. Theoretically, Crespi could have picked it up and returned it.

Been covering high school sports since 1980 and that’s the first time I’ve ever seen that. This is a game for the ages.
