Last year Jeremy Gendreau of St. John Bosco set a school record with 39 pins. There’s a good chance that mark is going to fall at some point this season, although the record-holder will remain the same.

Gendreau, now a senior 103-pound wrestler, has pinned all seven of his opponents this season, with five pins coming at last weekend’s Edison Bash at the Beach, where was named the lower-weight MVP. Four of those took place in the first round, including a 49-second fall in the championship against Brawley’s Stevie Elisade, a state-qualifier last season.

St. John Bosco Coach Omar Delgado told me in an email: ‘Jeremy is a pinner, his mentality is to never stop until he gets the pin, his club coach Jim Bryan deserves a lot of credit for giving him this mentality because Jim Bryan preaches pinning.’

Last season, Gendreau took second at the Southern Division Championships but came up a match short of state qualification at the Southern Section Masters Meet, during which he suffered a concussion in his final match.
