Loyola boys’ basketball still have the talent to be dominant

Just last week, I was thinking -- that’s a rarity for me, by the way -- about the Loyola Cubs and their unremarkable 3-3 record, losing to Gardena Serra, Mayfair and Santa Monica, all unranked. Well, the Cubs have won two in a row since, beating Calabasas and El Segundo, and now are 5-3. OK, a little better.

Still, with Georgetown-bound junior Hollis Thompson, I expected one thing from Loyola this season ... sheer dominance. That’s not to say Thompson hasn’t been dominant himself, averaging 22.3 points and nine rebounds. And that’s also not to say that the Cubs won’t piece together a remarkable seson. They certainly have the talent.

Loyola plays again on Dec. 26 in a holiday tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
