Troy Starr is returning to the Southland to coach high school football after spending this year serving as director of football operations at the University of Florida.

Starr, who built Woodland Hills Taft into a City Section power during 14 years as its coach, said he has no job lined up but hopes to find one by the start of the spring semester in February.

Starr said he had a ‘phenomenal experience’ working for Coach Urban Meyer at Florida but had a desire to return to coaching.

This decade, he guided Taft to the City final in 2001, 2002 and 2005.
