OC Championships have plenty of marquee value in second round

Today’s second round of the Larry Doyle Orange County Championships isn’t for fooling around. The marquee game tonight features No. 3 San Clemente (10-2) vs. No. 22 Foothill (10-1) at 6:30 p.m. That game pits the Tritons, who may be the best team in the county, against Foothill’s Christina Marinacci, a 6-foot-1 junior who may be the county’s best player. She’s averaging 21.9 points and 12.4 rebounds.

The victor faces the winner of No. 6 Santa Margarita (9-1) vs. Edison (7-2), which play tonight at 8 p.m.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 12 Mira Costa (8-2) played No. 21 Esperanza (5-5) in a game that has not yet reached its conclusion, with the winner of that game facing the winner of the 5 p.m. game between No. 16 Troy (7-2) vs. Norco (10-1).

The semifinal games will be played on Friday at 6:30 and 8 p.m., with the trophy games on Saturday.
