Let’s talk Moore League, which could be mayhem this boys’ basketball season. Who’s the favorite? Well, your prognostication is as fine as mine. Four teams are ranked (Compton, Poly, Jordan and Lakewood) and one could be (Wilson). So let’s review the contenders...
Compton: Logic says the No. 5-ranked Tarbabes should snag the crown, well, with superstar (and youtube.com sensation) DeMar DeRozan headlining their above-the-rim act. But Compton (10-5) has slumped of late, losing two straight.
Long Beach Poly: Has a versatile inside-outside threat with 270-pound Julian Camper banging under the boards and Terance Reaves launching three-point bombs. That simple yet precious combo gives No. 14 Poly (10-5) some serious court cred.
Long Beach Jordan: Losers of six out of seven, the No. 17 Panthers (7-8) score a ton but give up a ton and it’s time for them to rescue their season before it’s too late.
Lakewood: This sleeper pick has fallen asleep of late with a three-game skid. But the No. 23 Lancers (8-7) are always dangerous with rebound-meister Kyle Clark (13.5 boards) and long-range gunner Kevin McClelland (16.3 points).
Long Beach Wilson: Here is the wild card. The Bruins (8-5) have already whipped Poly this season, won five out of six and mystifies ranked teams with the clutch shooting of Michael Wilder, Steven Richard and Ryan Huntsman.
Prognostication: Compton will win the league crown. OK, I went with logic. And perhaps you should, too.
Oh, and my favorite Demi Moore movie? Ghost.
