For at least the second time this school year, tragedy has struck the athletic program at Beckman.
Ed French died Thursday, reportedly from complications from a stem-cell transplant. The assistant swim coach, who was 58, was being treated for a type of cancer, according to this story by the Register’s Dan Albano. He was also a coach with the Irvine Novaquatics for a number of years.
French is the second member of the Beckman athletic family to die this school year. Junior lineman Kenny Wilson collapsed on Aug. 17, the first day of fall football practice, succumbing to heat stroke. He was 16.
