The Narbonne girls’ basketball team has a possible challenger in Washington for the Marine League championship. The teams will meet for the first time on Friday at Narbonne.
Narbonne will bring an eight-game winning streak into the contest. One reason for the streak, according to Coach Victoria Sanders, is the Gauchos are playing some of their best defense of the season.
‘The kids are buying into my defensive system,’ Sanders said. ‘It depends on the opponent, but they are comfortable playing both man-to-man and zone.’
Sanders added that senior forward Tipesa Moorer’s play has stood out during the streak. ‘She has stepped up in the post, doing very well on offensive rebounding. Sometimes teams focus so much on Gabby [Gabrielle Clark] they forget about Tip.’
