My top-5 titans in Southern Section girls’ basketball in L.A. County

1. Millikan: The once-unranked Rams have humbled, not one, but two No. 1 juggernauts -- first Poly, then Miller -- and now deserve a bump up to The Times’ top spot themselves .
2. Redondo: The Sea Hawks beat Millikan and also took out superb Lynwood, Bishop Amat, Gahr and Palos Verdes squads, while losing only to ranked teams Narbonne and Mira Costa.
3. Long Beach Poly: Maybe a smidge overhyped when the season began. Then again, Poly beat the nation’s No. 1 team, Virginia’s Notre Dame Academy, and you just know the Jackrabbits are jacked up to avenge the Millikan loss when the schools play on Jan. 25
4. Mira Costa: The Mustangs derailed the Redondo Express but they need to upset one more top-10 team to slip into my top 3.
5. Santa Monica: Surprise pick? Sure, the Vikings are unranked but they’re scorching right now, winning seven of eight and beating solid squads, Buena, Palos Verdes and Culver City.
