How far will Hollywood advance in the City playoffs? As far as Geyme Guzman can take it.

The Sheiks’ junior forward has been the section’s most prolific scorer this season with a mind-numbing 34 goals and four assists in only 12 games. She’s tallied three or more goals five times, including a season-high seven in Hollywood’s 10-0 victory over West Adams Prep. She’s also accounted for over half of her team’s total offense. To measure Guzman’s importance to her team consider that the Sheiks’ next highest scorer, Rosie Garcia, has eight goals.

Hollywood improved to 11-1-1 with Wednesday’s 4-1 victory over Santee despite Guzman’s being held to a single goal for the first time this season. She didn’t play in the Sheiks’ 2-1 loss to Taft and she scored both goals in a 2-2 tie with Kennedy at the North Hollywood tournament.

The Sheiks have allowed a total of eight goals and have shut out seven opponents. Sure, the Southern League isn’t the strongest in the City, but Hollywood’s domination indicates that the Sheiks are ready to test themselves against the higher-caliber teams they’ll face in the postseason.

It’s clear, though, that the Sheiks’ destiny lies at the nimble feet of Guzman.
