The much-anticipated matchup between the Southland’s pre-eminent girls basketball players had a very decisive winner.
Jasmine Dixon, pictured, of top-ranked Long Beach Poly scored 14 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, and had three steals and three blocks to lead the Jackrabbits to a 55-41 nonleague victory Saturday over No. 8 Redondo on Saturday.
Dixon, a Rutgers-bound guard/forward, was five for 11 from the field as she easilyy outplayed UCLA-bound Atonye Nyingifa.
Nyingifa scored an inconsequential 14 points -- seven in the fourth quarter -- on the worst shooting night of hher career, she said. Nyingifa made only one of her first 16 shots from the field, and missed 12 in a row during a stretch of 20 minutes 54 seconds.
She was guarded most of the game by April Cook.
Kristalle Fountain led Redondo (20-3) with 15 points, and Monique Oliver scored 18 with 13 rebounds for Poly (19-2).
